Surgeon Information: Joseph P. Pizzurro, MD
Joseph P. Pizzurro, MDBoard-Certified Orthopedic SurgeonDr. Pizzurro has more than 35 years of experience in orthopedics and treating arthritis pain. His specialty is in the area of knee and hip replacements and he performs more than 200 of these procedures a year at The Valley Hospital. Dr. Pizzurro has a special interest in new technologies in orthopedics and he was one of the first surgeons in the New Jersey area to adopt the new ceramic on ceramic hip implant technology. He also spear-headed The Valley Hospital's effort to introduce computer navigation technology with knee and hip replacement procedures and was one of the first surgeons in the USA to complete more than 200 navigated implant procedures. In addition to spending time helping patients live more pain free lives, Dr. Pizzurro has served in many staff positions at The Valley Hospital. He was President and Vice President of the Valley Hospital Medical Staff. Dr. Pizzurro is currently serving his third term as Director of Orthopedics at The Valley Hospital and he continues to serve on numerous medical staff committees. He spearheaded the committee to set up the Total Joint Center at The Valley Hospital. Dr. Pizzurro has frequently lectured on the subject of knee and hip replacement and on the use of navigation during such procedures. He and his staff have conducted 10 clinical outcome studies on over 600 patients. Dr. Pizzurro is a veteran of the United States Army. He served in the United States Army Medical Corps as a Captain and received the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. Dr. Pizzurro has lived in the Bergen County area for more than 30 years.
